Owner / Instructor
Jennifer Burns, CPDT-KA

Jennifer has been working with dogs and their owners since 2001. She worked for a large pet retailer for 7 years as a trainer for both new trainers coming into the company as well as the 4 legged clients and their two legged humans. In 2008, Jennifer went out on her own and Standing O'Paws was born. Jennifer, along with her husband, has rescued several dogs in need of a little understanding and a lot of training. She currently owns an 10 year old female Akita who has completed multiple levels of training and has recently retired from actively working on cases. Jennifer believes that continued education isn't an option for a dog but a necessity for them. Jennifer stays on top of the training industry by attending teaching seminars and webinars.
Credentials:

Charlie builds and maintains all of our agility equipment used during our classes. He currently owns a 3 year old terrier mix who likes to try out all of the equipment before it gets his Standing O'Paws seal of approval.

Our Pack (on 4 legs)

"Jasmine"

Jasmine is a 10 year old female Akita owned by Charlie and Jennifer. She's more than worth the time that we have put into her training. Because of her even temperament, she has worked closely with Jennifer to help dogs in need of socializing skills. She has helped countless under socialized dogs as well as a few dog aggressive cases.
UPDATE: On November 15, 2011, Jasmine passed away. Jasmine's loyalty and even temperament has allowed us to open our hearts and home to another Akita. Be sure to check out his bio below.

"Dempsey"

Jack "Dempsey" is a 3 year old Yorkie / Manchester terrier mix. When he's not chilling in his bed, he is a typical terrier with a never ending supply of energy. If you ask him what his purpose in life is, he'd probably tell you that its to see how fast he can run and how high he can jump. Although his education is a never ending work in progress, he's a natural at helping dad test out the agility equipment. He also enjoys having play dates with the K-9 friends he's made through our group training classes and our Board & Train program.

"Comet"

"Comet"
is our newest addition. Due to the amazing experiences we have had with 2 previous Akitas, we decided to open our hearts and home to another awesome Akita ambassador. Comet was born on Nov. 2, 2011. We picked him up during our cross country move in December and he has been a bundle of joy ever since. We began his training the moment he came into our lives and he has made great progress in his training career. He will soon be participating in the AKC's STAR Puppy program with the goal of eventually earning his STAR Puppy medal, Canine Good Citizenship, and become a visiting therapy dog. We'll be sure to update his status as he grows and hits the important milestones.

"Bob"

"Bob"
is our rescued fat cat. He came into our lives 10 years ago when Jennifer was first starting out in the dog training world. He rules the roost when it comes to keeping everyone in line. The dogs all respect him and give him the space he demands. Often times we're glad he doesn't have thumbs or he could quite possibly rule the world. Bob plays an integral role when it comes to our Board & Train clients. Many of them have issues with self control when it comes to small animals, especially cats. Bob doesn't take any nonsense and helps us to establish the boundaries of acceptable behavior for all new dogs coming into our home.

"Tinkerbelle"

"Tinkerbelle"
is 2 years old and has brought a lot of laughter into our home. She partners with Bob to teach household boundaries and controlled interactions to all Board & Train clients. Her role in these cases is to push the dog's limits of distractions while Bob is ready to reinforce the rules.
